Help Monitor Civic Space in Trinidad & Tobago

We’re building a secure and anonymous reporting space for members of civil society in Trinidad and Tobago. If you or someone in your network has experienced or witnessed an incident that affects the ability of civil society to speak out, organise, or operate freely, we want to hear from you.

This initiative is part of the EU-funded System for an Enabling Environment (SEE) project, implemented locally by The Cropper Foundation. Your reports will help track changes in the enabling environment for civil society and inform national and international advocacy.

What Can You Report?

We’re looking for incidents—positive or negative—that reflect how civil society space is changing. This includes things that impact your:

  • Freedom of expression, association, or peaceful assembly
    • E.g., threats, restrictions on protests, surveillance
  • Legal or administrative conditions
    • E.g., difficulties registering your group or meeting compliance rules
  • Access to funding and resources
    • E.g., donor pressure, bank account closures, shifting grant criteria
  • Relationship with the state
    • E.g., exclusion from consultations, lack of accountability
  • Public discourse
    • E.g., media misinformation, smear campaigns, hate speech
  • Digital security
    • E.g., censorship, hacking, doxxing, blocked access to platforms

You can upload:

  • Written descriptions
  • Photos, screenshots, or scanned documents
  • Links to online content
  • Videos (How do we do this?)
  • Optional: Your name and contact info, if you’re comfortable

What Will You Be Asked?

Each submission has a separate text box for each question:

  1. What happened? (Brief or detailed description)
  2. When and where did it happen?
  3. Who was involved? (Optional to name individuals or institutions)
  4. Was it a one-time or recurring event?
  5. Do you have any evidence to share?
  6. What impact did this have on civil society or your work?
  7. Did you experience this directly, or did you witness or hear about it?
  8. Optional: Add your name or contact details if you’re open to being contacted for follow-up.
